A classic and very rare Lenco L78 Special Edition (SE) idler wheel turntable.

For those who don't know the Lenco L78 SE, this is the top of the line Lenco, based on the famous L75 but with automatic shut off function (can be switched back to manual) and an improved decoupling system with four heavy springs that can be set individually in order to balance the turntable.

The L78 SE comes standard with a Japanese Jelco tone arm that work much better with modern, light weight cartridges and have better tracking performance than the standard L75.

This version was very expensive and therefore not much sold. Nowadays they are very very rare and sought after by collectors for both collectors and performance reasons.

The Jelco tone arm is so good, there is absolute no reason to modify this turntable with another arm. The Lenco L78 SE is a true classic turntable that is highly rewarded by many enthusiastic analog audiophile adapts for its sound. It outperforms the rare and expensive Garrard 401 and 301, Thorens TD-124 and also many other, modern turntables in terms of bass slam, stereo image and detail.

The heavy platter idler wheel principle seems to be the most audiophile way to build a turntable. The build quality of the Lenco L78 SE is much better than the Garrard and Thorens turntables and can only be surpassed by the very expensive, professional EMT turntables.
